Core Facilities Program
The Faculty of Medicine recognizes that research is increasingly dependent on sophisticated technologies that cannot easily be established within individual research operations. As a result the Faculty has established a set of core facilities to meet this need. Financial and operational oversight for core facilities rests with the Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Medicine with ongoing advice and input from users’ committees. Each core facility is supported by a dedicated users group that provides broad representation and advice from researchers who need access to the facility.
Core facilities are supported by an integrated fund from Faculty resources as well as modest users fees to ensure that technologies are kept up-to-date, have effective oversight and can be enhanced as new technologies are developed.
New core facilities are being considered and will be developed in the near future. Some core facilities will be established as a cooperative venture with other Faculties or our affiliated teaching hospitals.
Role of Program:
- Maintain and operate major research facilities
- Provide training for faculty and trainees
- Assist researchers in the acquisition of major pieces of equipment
- Provide regular updates on emerging technologies through workshops and newsletters
